Four steps to removing bird droppings
Bird droppings can harm the car’s paint and cause permanent damage so when it comes to removing them you have to act quickly. But what exactly is the most effective method to remove them without causing any further damage or scratches?
In this blog article, we will lay out the steps for you to follow to remove bird droppings stress-free and pressure-free.
First of all, bird droppings can cause a sufficient amount of damage to a vehicle’s paint as they contain Uric Acid. This acid contains a pH level of 3-4.5 which is quite acidic. In addition, this acid is corrosive and can cause damage to both a vehicle’s ceramic or wax coating as well as to its paint.
One major issue with how people usually remove bird droppings is that they use water and soap to try to scrub them off. This scrubbing and pressure are what causes scratches which is why it is essential to use the right products for the removal process.
Clean early!
As soon as you notice the bird droppings, grab your waterless spray and microfibre towel to begin wiping it down. Do not wait to do it during the regular car wash. If left too long the Uric Acid in the bird droppings WILL damage the car’s paint. We recommend that you use a waterless wash spray even if the bird droppings are still wet.
The 4 steps to removing the bird droppings
We recommend using a waterless wash to safely remove the bird droppings whilst adding in a layer of wax protection at the same time.
- Simply grab your waterless wash and a microfibre towel.
- Layer on the spray whilst holding the towel underneath to catch any excess product.
- Wipe the contamination away in one direction with the microfibre towel. Then grab a gloss enhancer or ceramic coating spray and add that on for extra protection.
- Once completely wiped down, saturate the surface once more and wipe it down to make sure the paint is coated in the gloss enhancer or ceramic coating spray.
The waterless spray breaks down the contamination and dirt and almost won’t require too much wiping to remove the bird droppings. If you can see that the bird dropping is very stuck to the paint or has rocks in it, saturate it in the waterless spray before trying to wipe it down. Make sure that you fold the towel onto a clean side before wiping down more.
How to prevent bird droppings in the future:
This might sound a little bit too obvious but parking in a car park or garage will prevent these things from happening. It is as simple as that.
